Being among people

Weekend retreat on meditation, living together and politics - with Wibo Koole

Start date > 11 October 2024 - 19:00h
End date > 13 October 2024 - 16:30h
Place > De Ruimte, Weesperzijde 79A, 1091EJ Amsterdam

At the beginning of autumn, we take a weekend to relax and reflect. Just as the unfocused summer energy has transitioned into the focused activities of work and living together.

In this weekend, we explore what meditation means for living together. Is meditation also political? Is the elephant in the dharma hall that we do not express ourselves there politically, as my mentor John Peacock wrote? According to philosopher Hannah Arendt, human beings are fundamentally political beings. Among the Romans, the words ‘life’ and ‘being among people’ are synonymous with this.

With simple – sometimes guided – sitting and walking meditations, complemented by mindful movement, we create a framework of relaxed attention, founded in the body and with an open mind. Often in silence, to make space from calmness and relaxation for short thematic reflections on the meaning of ‘being among people’.

This weekend retreat is suitable for both beginners and experts on the meditative path. The language is Dutch, but instructions and reflections are easy to understand.

The weekend will be held on 11-13 October 2024:

  • Friday: 19:00 to 21:30
  • Saturday: 09:30:00 to 17:30 (no evening session)
  • Sunday: 09:30 to 16:30.
