Inward and outward facing

Weekend retreat on the basics of meditation - with Wibo Koole

Start date > 25 April 2025 - 19:00h
End date > 27 April 2025 - 16:30h
Place > De Ruimte, Centrum voor Bewustzijnsontwikkeling, Weesperzijde 79A, 1091EJ Amsterdam

The four foundations of mindfulness meditation are: the body; the feeling tone; moods, emotions and thoughts; and the interpretation of the world. Contrary to popular belief, attention can be directed inward and outward.

In this weekend, we practice these four perspectives, guided by simple, practical instructions. And in addition, we place the inward and outward meditations in short reflections in the historical context of early Buddhism. We take the Buddha’s basic speech, the Satipațțhāna-sutta as a starting point and compare it to the European context using Hannah Arendt’s concept of vita activa. What is the meaning of meditating for our lives. How do social and personal flourishing relate to each other?

This weekend retreat is suitable for both beginners and advanced practitioners. The language is Dutch, but easy to understand.

The weekend will be held on 25-27 April 2025:

  • Friday: 19:00 to 21:30
  • Saturday: 09:30:00 to 17:30 (no evening session)
  • Sunday: 09:30 to 16:30.
