With Feeling Towards Liberation

Weekend retreat on emotions and ethics - with Wibo Koole

Date > 19 September 2025 - 19:00h - 16:30h
Place > De Ruimte - Centrum voor Bewustzijnsontwikkeling, Weesperzijde 79A, 1091EJ Amsterdam

Feelings and emotions abound in our daily lives. And we meditate to learn to deal better with our emotions. But is that really the case? What are emotions anyway? Are they just feelings or are they ethical guideposts?

In the Buddha’s basic speech, the Satipațțhāna sutta, the third foundation, cittānupassanā, focuses not so much on detachment from emotions and thinking, but its ethical content. For in every mental state there is always a will embedded.

In this weekend we explore emotions and ethics. With regular sitting and walking meditation in silence. And in short reflections on the theme with insights from Buddhist traditions (Bikkhu Analayo, Bernat Font) and modern psychological emotion theory (Lisa Feldman Barrett). In order to better understand how we can utilize emotions and ethics in our own lives.

This weekend retreat is suitable for both beginners and advanced practitioners.

The weekend will be held on 19-21 September 2025:

  • Friday: 19:00 to 21:30h
  • Saturday: 09:30:00 to 17:30h (no evening session)
